My new Land Hermit Crab

Land hermit crab

The shop owner told me that I can host this creatures same way as turtles, I do not know how many he already sold .. but I think what he sold is already dead by now, The creatures drown easily if put like turtles in a deep water  .. may be 3 cm deep is enough to kill them, they can’t swim .. beside they need both fresh water and sea water available to stay alive beside warm moisture  air and dry space to move, eat and play .. will do my best to keep them a live.

My Royal Farlowella kids

Royal Farlowella (Sturistoma sp.) is peaceful catfish originated from South America and rarely found for sale in Egypt, breeding the fish is easy if you can keep couple of them for a year or two until they become mature enough for laying eggs.

My Farlowellas breed in our regular Egyptian tap water which is harder and more alkaline than the usual recommendation for south american fishes.

anyways, the problem wasn’t to introduce the fish for breeding, the problem comes with the fry raising, the just-hatched fry is about 1cm long and need the food under its mouth, they starve to death but will not search for food until it become 2 months old or so! the fry is very delicate and polluted water kills them, the only solution is to put the fries in a net breeder in mounted in larger aquarium (1m long in my case) and offer them plenty of algae tabs and some flakes, that way they will find their way to the food while the water is aerated and clean all the time.

My Royal Pleco

I really can’t tell for sure if this is a real Royal Pleco Panaque nigrolineatus but seems that little fish can’t grow more than 5 cm which is much smaller than what the real Royal can do!

This genus comes from South America, water there is very soft, so it may can’t grow will in our hard water… or may they need well oxygenated water more than what I have in my aquarium.
